What a surgical consultation involves
A surgical consultation is a clinical assessment, not a commitment to operate. Your surgeon will review your history, examine you, and look at any relevant investigations — imaging, lab results, reports from other doctors. Then they'll give you their assessment: whether surgery is indicated, what procedure they recommend, and what the alternatives are if you choose not to proceed.
If surgery is agreed upon, the process moves to pre-operative planning. Our surgical team works with the anaesthetics team and ward nurses — all in the same building — so nothing about your case is communicated in fragments.
Second opinions are welcome. If you've been told elsewhere that you need a procedure and you want another view before committing, our surgeons will review your case honestly and tell you what they think.
