Planned Caesarean Section
A planned C-section is recommended when a normal delivery carries specific risks — a previous uterine scar, placenta praevia, a baby in a position that can't be safely delivered vaginally, or other clinical reasons your obstetrician identifies.
The process is straightforward when it's planned. You'll meet the surgical and anaesthetic team in advance, have your pre-operative blood tests done, and know exactly what to expect on the day — including what to eat, when to arrive, and what the recovery will involve.
Emergency Caesarean Section
Sometimes the decision to proceed with a C-section is made during labour — foetal distress, failure to progress, or a change in maternal condition. Our theatre is on-site and our surgical team is available to respond without the delay of transferring to another facility.
This is why we encourage women who are approaching their due date to deliver with a team that already knows their case. An emergency is managed better when the surgeon has your notes in front of them.
Recovery after your C-section
The first 24–48 hours after a caesarean involve wound monitoring, pain management, and early mobilisation. Our nursing team checks on you regularly. You won't be sent home until it's safe to do so — and you'll have clear instructions for wound care and what to watch for.
The six-week postnatal visit is when we review how your recovery has gone, check the scar, and discuss family planning and any concerns about a future pregnancy.
